Quartet started in arcades in 1986, both developed and published by Sega. The success of the arcade led to Sega quickly porting the game to its newest console, the Sega Mark III (Master System in the US). This sidescrolling platform shooter featured up to four player simultaneous gameplay in the arcade version, with the home console port only supporting two players.

Thousands of years into the future, humans are now inhabiting space colonies, and Colony Number Nine has been invaded by a group of “awesome aliens of the nastiest kind.” You take control of Mary and Edgar. Space marines who have taken it upon themselves to take down the alien intruders and restore peace to the colony.

As of the start of this boost, the speedrun leaderboard contains a single category of “Beat the Game.” The game also allows the player to play multiple loops of the game, upgrading the players weapon after reaching certain point levels. These expanded arsenals, as well as the option of co-operative two player playthroughs, introduces incredible boost potential for this board.
