Haunting Starring Polterguy was released exclusively for the Genesis in 1993, eventually being rereleased via the EA Replay collection on the PSP in 2006. Upon release, reviews were quick to praise its unique style of gameplay.
This game marks Board Booster’s second annual spooky-themed October boost (see Organ Trail from 2023), and Haunting Starring Polterguy pulls no punches with its Halloween theme. You take control of Polterguy, the ghost of a skateboarding teen who is looking to enact revenge on the family whose business manufactured a defective skateboard that led to his death. Using the powers of the poltergeist, plant scary traps called “Fright ’ems” around the house of the Sardini family in an effort to scare them from the neighborhood.
The speedrun has two categories. The 100% category requires a full run through the final boss, whereas House% does not require a successful final boss fight, allowing you to focus entirely on scaring the pants off the Sardini family in their four total homes over the course of the run.
