Fandom’s Wiki for this game describes it as having a controversial production history. Seeing a few seconds of gameplay and it’s no wonder why this would be its claim to fame. Regular Wikipedia has some enlightening quotes from this piece of history’s authors.
But controversy aside, we love old games around here and The Great Giana Sisters is a 2D side-scrolling platformer sporting all our favorite things: 32 stages with warps, stompable enemies, spiky hair, and a few notable power-ups such as a screen-wide enemy freeze.
Setting up the environment to run the game takes some effort (Amiga is old, afterall), it’s a great jump-in-and-play game for a budding speedrunner!
BOOSTERS’ TAKE
Legally-distinct non-Mario game was interesting for many reasons. For most, this was the first time using Amiga. We did some science and fully learned how the mysterious auto-targeting system worked. Overall, our boosters enjoyed this game though it can be difficult to get set up.
